The rivers of Peru offer an adventure for anyone who loves outdoor sports.
Very close to the city of Lima, about three hours by car, is the Lunahuana Valley. This beautiful valley offers the perfect environment for adventure sports while featuring all the comforts, as well as, its famous cuisine.
In Lunahuana, you can find several options for rafting and kayaking. The river Cañete, which is the main attraction in this area, offers challenges for both the beginner and the expert.
Peru is a land of many contrasts. La Costa is dry and arid, the Central Highlands are dominated by the snowy peaks of the Andes, and in the Eastern Region is the Amazon rainforest. The landscape of Peru creates a incredible network of rivers that connect different people and ecosystems.
Peru is characterized by more than a dozen rivers longer than 600 km in length. Its five largest rivers total more than 7,000 km within Peru.
There are also opportunities to use rubber rafts that are powered by oars on the rivers. Internationally, rapids are rated on a scale of I to VI according to the degree of difficulty (Class VI is impossible to run). Rivers where you can practice this sport are: On the coast: Cañete, Lurin, Lunahuana In the Sierra: Colca Cotahuasi Vilcanota, Apurimac. In the jungle: Tambopata, Pozuzo.
